What's Next For The Winners And Losers Of Bellator 44?
No detached retina, UFC Welterweight Champ Georges St. Pierre can return to training in 10 days

"The doctors were very worried it was a detached retina because they couldn't see inside his eye," Zahabi said in comments made to MMAWeekly.com. "They flashed the light inside his eye and normally they're supposed to be able to see inside the eye, but the eye was filled with obstructions. The doctor was saying he couldn't see inside, so he needed to go to a specialist. Luckily it was just blood in the eye and not the detached retina. This occurred after the swipe to the face."
The swipe to the face came in the third round of the fight, where an open hand strike from Shields caught St. Pierre in his left eye. From there on out, St. Pierre was visibly bothered and told his corner after both the third and fourth round that he couldn't see out of his left eye. Zahabi believes Shields should have at the very least been warned by the referee in the fight and St. Pierre should have been given a chance to recover.
"When he threw that open handed hook, that was recorded, I complained to the ref immediately," Zahabi said. "I saw it, I completely saw it. I complained about it immediately to the referee that it was an open hand swipe to the face."
"I don't think it was intentional, but I mean it still happened, and he should get a warning and it should be kept in mind that he's punching with an open hand. It's not right, it's very dangerous."
St. Pierre's vision was fully obstructed by the blood that built up after the poke, but St. Pierre gutted it out through the remainder of the fight and held on to take the unanimous decision. Now, after seeing a specialist, the champion received some good news.
"I knew his depth perception would be compromised, but I didn't know to what extent. Later, when we did the examination on his eye, his vision was very much obstructed... [But] the doctors are saying he's going to have a complete recovery. I'm really happy with that. He just can't do any training for 10 days, he has medication to take, and he has to do this treatment, and then they're going to reassess him in 10 days, but they say he's going to make a full recovery."
Link to Original Source Article
Penick's Analysis: This is great news. St. Pierre's eye was severely impacted in that fight, and it was clear from the moment the poke happened that he was having major trouble with it. But thankfully it's not a more serious situation, and with him being able to return to training in 10 days it's certainly a lot better than it could have been. It also means he'll be able to return a lot sooner than would have otherwise been possible, keeping a bout with Nick Diaz in play for sometime this year.

White vlog: ‘Santa’ Dana grants wishes
Canadians are faithful and creative MMA fans. A few thousand attended a Dana White Q & A yesterday at the Ricoh Coliseum in Toronto. They've learned from experience that if you ask Dana White for something, he may actually give it to you.
Multiple fans asked for a chance to go backstage during the weigh-in. It appeared that 28 of them got back there.
Another fan asked if he could sit next to the Octagon girls during UFC 129 - wish granted. And the most bold fan asked if he could come into the cage following the main event. He told White that he's great at eveything except putting the championship belt on, so the fan asked if he could put the belt on Georges St-Pierre after he beats "James" Shields. Clearly, he's a baseball fan. Jake is the fighter challenging GSP, James is a pitcher for the Tampa Bay Rays. White thought for a second and said yes. He confirmed it later in a short conversation with Joe Rogan (3:25 mark).
White and the crew give us a quick look at Rogers Centre with its configuration for the 55,000 tonight. A reporter, sitting in an SUV with White and owner Lorenzo Fertitta in the bowels of Rogers Centre, was scared to death when the sound in the arena was cranked up. White said it shook the car.
White also jokes while walking around the arena that he hopes no one presses "the button" to open the Rogers Centre roof. The stadium that used to be known as Skydome has a retractable roof. There is a giant four-sided scoreboard with HD screens hanging over the Octagon (8:05 mark)

Diaz vs. Lacy set: Camp Lacy says ‘Left Hook’ isn’t losing to a 1-0 fighter
If contracts mean anything it appears we're closer to Nick Diaz stepping away from MMA to try his hand at boxing. Press releases were sent out today saying the Strikeforce 170-pound champion has signed a deal to fight former 168-pound boxing champion Jeff "Left Hook" Lacy in October.
Lacy's publicist Bernie Bahrmasel said his fighter has signed the deal. ESPN.com's Josh Gross spoke with Diaz's mentor Cesar Gracie, who said the MMA fighter also put pen to paper.
Diaz didn't actually sign a contract to fight Lacy. He's signed a bout agreement with Don Chargin, the promoter, with the understanding that it's going to be Lacy.
It's a surprising matchup on both sides. Lacy, a pro boxer with 30 fights under his belt, has a lot to lose. Diaz, who hasn't lost an MMA bout since 2007, has only fought professionally on the boxing side one time.
"It's a challenge when somebody calls him out," Bahrmasel told Yahoo! Sports. "It's a personal thing when somebody says 'you're this, you're that. I can come and kick your butt.' And Jeff's like, 'I'm Jeff Lacy pal. I've been a successful boxer for a very long time. You want to step in with me under boxing rules and prove yourself, it's absolutely personal.'
Two weeks ago, Lacy (25-4-1) spoke about Diaz calling him out.
"Honestly, I was a little stunned. Nick has accomplished a great deal in mixed martial arts and is certainly one of the best in the sport. But getting in the ring with me for a boxing match is a path he needs to be very wary of taking. I'm willing to put it all on the line anytime, anywhere!" said Lacy.
"For the right price, I'm more than interested in heading to his turf and put my fist in his mouth and silencing him."
That kind of trash talk surprised his publicist.
"For Jeff to use that kind of language, it's not typically the way he talks," Bahrmasel said. "He's always been very respectful. But you throw a sword in his direction then you're going to get Jeff Lacy."
The Lacy Camp has no worries about losing to Diaz (1-0).
"He's never lost to a guy who's 1-0 in boxing. How's that for a line? I'll leave it at that," said Bahrmasel.
Is Diaz taking a negotiating position to ensure an MMA fight against Georges St. Pierre before the end of 2011 or will he really go through with this? That's what it sounded like when Gracie spoke with MMAFighting. Seems like a risky proposition for Diaz. If he gets destroyed by Lacy, we're not so sure he can just walk back to MMA and expect anyone to promote a mega-fight against GSP in the near future.

Fighters approve of health insurance, but what does it mean for fans?
When news broke that the UFC has decided to give fighters health insurance through their training camps, fighters were, understandably, excited. Several fighters quickly tweeted their approval.
This insurance will cover fighters' injuries while they are in camp. It's a huge victory for fighters and a smart move by Zuffa, but what does it mean for the fans?
It means that we'll see better fights. Fighters won't feel the need to go through their bouts with injuries just to get their medical expenses covered. A fighter is rarely at 100 percent when he or she goes into a fight, but now it will be less likely to see a fighter go through with a bout when it's not the smart or healthy move. Fighting with a torn ACL, a broken bone or a concussion will no longer be necessary, and healthier fighters make for well matched-up, more exciting fights.
Or as veteran fighter Jason High tweeted, "Nothing worse than seeing someone you know is injured fight anyway so they can get their [expletive] fixed."
Daniel Cormier to meet longtime veteran Jeff Monson at Strikeforce "Overeem vs. Werdum" in June

The organization announced this weekend that Cormier will now meet Jeff Monson at the event, marking Monson's first return to a Zuffa owned event since losing to Tim Sylvia in a UFC Heavyweight Championship fight at UFC 65 in 2006.
Monson's been extremely busy since he last appeared in the UFC, fighting 24 times over the last five years and racking up a 19-5 record in that stretch, including winning his last eight fights.
The 7-0 Cormier will have a chance to end "The Snowman's" streak and notch an impressive win in this fight. A big win will would get him a shot at another fighter higher up the ladder, and continue the Olympian's impressive start to his career.
The June 18 event airs live on Showtime from the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas, headlined by the Heavyweight World Grand Prix fight between Alistair Overeem and Fabricio Werdum.
Penick's Analysis: This is an excellent fight for both right now. Cormier's being lauded as one of the more promising prospects, and a win over an established and, regardless of what anyone else thinks, relevant opponent in Monson would be the biggest win he's notched to date. For Monson, a return to a major televised promotion is a big chance for him to prove that, despite his age, he's still capable of winning at a high level; and a win over Cormier would also be perhaps Monson's most impressive win since defeating Sergei Kharitonov in 2009. This is a nice piece of matchmaking, and a good replacement fight for Cormier on a little over a month's notice.

Former NHL Enforcer Donald Brashear Readies for MMA Debut
The 39-year-old will face an opponent yet to be determined in his adopted hometown of Quebec City, Quebec, and his first prizefight will come on very short notice. During a recent edition of The MMA Hour, Brashear said that he decided to take the fight after being approached by the event's promoter just around one month ago, and with no previous MMA experience. If that sounds like a rash decision, Brashear can't exactly argue.
"The most I know is from the people I see fighting," he said. "The only knowledge of fighting I have is boxing and playing in the NHL, so I've got a lot of stuff to learn."

Fighters give their take on Kobe vs. Pau
There's a delicate balance in the gym amongst training partners. Teammates in MMA are really no different than those in other sports. We've seen plenty of drama unfold in 2011 between for Jackson's MMA teammates Rashad Evans and Jon Jones, so when we brought up the Kobe Bryant vs. Pau Gasol rumors to several fighters, they had plenty to say.
If you're not an NBA fan, the Los Angeles Lakers were swept out of the playoffs by the Dallas Mavericks. Lakers big man Gasol was underwhelming throughout the postseason and confirmed that he let problems off the court affect his play. Bill Plaschke from the L.A. Times:
"I have to learn from this," Gasol said. ''I have to learn that when something happens off the court, you have to keep it off the court."
He was referring to the report that he stopped talking to Bryant during the postseason because Bryant's wife, Vanessa, had contributed to the breakup of Gasol and his longtime girlfriend. Lakers fans will remember Karl Malone publicly accused Vanessa of interfering with his personal life in a similar fashion.
If the rumors are true, Kobe's reportedly had similar issues former teammates Karl Malone and Shaquille O'Neal.
Rashad Evans, Melvin Guillard and Anthony Johnson were all asked about how much dirt you're allowed to dish to your spouse about your teammates.

QUOTABLES: Junior Dos Santos predicts a knockout win over Shane Carwin at UFC 131

-Junior Dos Santos talks to Sherdog.com about getting a new opponent in Shane Carwin at UFC 131 and how he sees that fight going.
Penick's Analysis: This fight certainly isn't going the distance, that's almost assured with these two fighters involved. Dos Santos will be tested by a striker the likes of which he's never faced before, and the same can be said for Carwin in this one. Carwin's gas tank remains a question mark after the loss to Lesnar last year, and it's a bigger question mark after nearly a year out of action as well. But this fight is extremely interesting even with Lesnar being knocked out of the bout, and the winner will still emerge as a deserving number one contender.

‘Older’ Carwin jumps on the chance to face JDS
Shane Carwin got a late start to his MMA career and now that he's in his mid-30's, he's jumping on the opportunity to grab a title shot.
Brock Lesnar, ill again with diverticulitis, has dropped out of his title eliminator with Junior dos Santos on June 11. With the clock ticking on his career, Carwin, 36, felt like he had to take the shot.
"Junior is a serious fight and not the type of fight that you would normally take on a 30 day notice but I have a dream to chase and I do not have a lot of time to chase it. This is an opportunity to put myself in contention for the title. I know my Coaches will have me ready so I have everything to gain, Carwin said on his blog. "My manager said 'This is where you belong' and I am going to make sure I do everything I can to prove him right."
The important phrase in there is clearly the reference to not having a lot of time. Carwin's been battling back issues. He was also facing a long climb back up the ladder after nearly 13 months off. This fight throws him right into the title mix. The winner is likely to get UFC heavyweight champ Cain Velasquez in the fall.
Carwin (12-1, 4-1 UFC) is certainly qualified to face a guy like dos Santos (12-1, 6-1 UFC), but he's in a tough position. He had back surgery in the fall of 2010 and hasn't fought since his UFC 116 loss to Lesnar. Coming out of that defeat, there were also questions about his stamina.
For JDS, Carwin brings a similar build and background to Lesnar, although his striking is much more dangerous. Dos Santos is predicting a finish on one side or the other.
"His boxing skills are great," Dos Santos told Sherdog. "It's gonna be a great fight with tough blows from both sides. I would say that it will end by knockout."

Diaz video: Tired of fighting chumps, wants GSP
A German website caught up with the enigmatic Nick Diaz after UFC 129. Mark Bergmann did a good job trying to get Diaz to focus. When he did, Diaz said he was bored and weary of facing opponents whose only chance to win is by landing a miracle shot.
"I'm trying to go on to bigger and better things. I don't just want to keep fighting these chumps," Diaz said. "If they want to keep having me fight these chumps, I'm not afraid to do that, but I'm not going to go ahead fighting these guys unless they're willing to pay me a lot more money."
Diaz is still focused on boxing as an option because as he says, "we're talking big money now." If he has to, he'll leave MMA.
After UFC 129, Dana White told the media that he'll be visiting Stockton, Ca. as soon as this week to speak with Diaz.
When asked if the fight was possible even with Diaz's Showtime contract in place White said he can make any fight he desires.
"I imagine I could do whatever I wanted to if I really wanted to," White said. "I don't know. We're going to have to see how this whole thing works out."

Luckiest man in Canada lives out dream by putting belt on GSP
Dana White was clearly blown away by the passion of Canadian MMA fans in Toronto for UFC 129, so when one of them had a crazy request, the UFC president granted the UFC diehard his wish.
Yahoo! Sports' Eh Game was on the scene as Trevor Fitzgerald rolled the dice during White's Friday Q & A:
"After Georges St-Pierre beats down Jake Shields," Fitzgerald started, to immediate cheers. "Can I have the honour of the putting the championship belt around his waist?"
The question seemed to daze White for a moment.
"That's a tough request," the president said. "But [expletive] it, I'll do it."
The place erupted. Disbelieving fans could be heard shouting, "Are you kidding me?" And moments later, Fitzgerald was near the stage sharing his cell number with White's bodyguard so that they can set this whole thing up.
If you paid close attention seconds after Bruce Buffer belted out the results and wondered who the Kevin Smith look-a-like was in the Octagon, now you have your answer - just some fan who asked.
Fitzgerald may be the luckiest man in Canada. He was only at the event because he won a contest!
A father of two from Fort Frances, Ont., Fitzgerald asked his wife if he could go to UFC 129. The answer was no. Corrina, his wife reminded him that his five-year-old daughter Emily had a dance recital today.
Fitzgerald had one card left up his sleeve. He'd entered a UFC 129 trip giveaway at a local Boston Pizza. Guess what happened? Fitzgerald has his name pulled, won two tickets, a hotel room and airfare, and the wifey had to relent.

How a fighter celebrates the royal wedding
It's safe to assume that most MMA fighters didn't get up to watch the royal wedding, but Strikeforce champion Marloes Coenen did. Though the Dutch fighter isn't a subject of the British Monarchy, she did get into the wedding of Prince William and the new Princess Catherine, donning a fantastic hat. Not this fantastic, but still pretty fantastic, especially considering that it's a top the head of a woman who beats people up for a living.
While NFL and MLB fear Twitter, UFC will pay year-end bonuses for Twit-beasts
When a league gets incredibly corporate or is run by a fossil, you'd expect there to be a huge gap between the head honcho, the players and most sadly, the fans.
MLB just fined Ozzie Guillen for venting some postgame frustration on Twitter, while the NFL has handed out multiple fines for tweeting at inappropriate times. As far as the UFC is concerned, there is no inappropriate time for fighters to deliver their message on Twitter.
According to MMAFighting, the fighters have a bonus system to reward success on Twitter:
Starting June 1, UFC and Strikeforce fighters will be divided into four categories, based on how many Twitter followers they currently have. At the end of each quarter, three fighters from each category will be awarded a $5,000 bonus. The three winners will be based on who has gained the most followers since the start of the quarter, who gained the highest percentage of new followers and who wrote the most creative tweets. White will be the judge of the last category.
At the conclusion of a full calendar year, the UFC will end up paying $240,000 a year to its fighters for their Twitter usage.
Twitter is double-edged sword. It's crushed a few athletes who sent out controversial messages, but for the most part it's served as a revolutionary way for athletes to close the huge perceived chasm between themselves and the fans.
There's no gap between Cagewriter.com and our "fans." Follow Yahoo! Sports MMA on Twitter @kevini, @yahoodoyle, @maggiehendricks and @stevecofield.

RICH HANSEN, MMATORCH COLUMNIST
I'm still underwhelmed by UFC 129, to be frank. The three big fights all look to be slaughters (GSP, Aldo, and Machida, although I think the Aldo fight will be very tough). I'm curious as to how Vladimir Matyushenko vs. Jason Brilz is on the PPV, as opposed to the undercard of a Spike or Versus event. Earlier this month I wrote that I was more anxious to see the Strikeforce: Diaz vs. Daley event, and I stand by that assertion still.

I also am a fan of Jake Shields, and I am eager to see if he can at least give GSP more trouble than he has seen in a while. The promotion has re-upped my anticipation as a lot of the the event's shine has been dulled by the well deserved Jon Jones hype.
FRANK HYDEN, MMATORCH CONTRIBUTOR
I'm fairly excited for this card. I think the UFC hasn't done that good a job hyping the Jose Aldo vs. Mark Hominick fight. I think that fight will be the best of the night and it's the one not getting talked about that much. Lyoto Machida vs. Randy Couture is one of those special attraction fights, but does anyone really expect an exciting fight? Georges St. Pierre vs. Jake Shields should be a good fight and all the ads for the show make the fight seem more exciting than it probably will be. I think we're going to see another dominating GSP 5 round decision where he's clearly head and shoulders above his opponent.
JASON AMADI, MMATORCH COLUMNIST
I'm geeked beyond belief to see UFC 129, however UFC's promotional efforts have little to do with that. While the commercial that was produced to hype St. Pierre vs. Shields was excellent, the UFC hasn't done much to let casual fans know stacked this card really is. The main event sells pay-per-views, and Georges St. Pierre is all you really need, but this card is way too stacked to receive the same treatment that UFC 124 did. The debut of UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo and the final fight of Randy Couture are things that would hook the casual viewer just as much as the main event.

I'm much more excited for the card as a whole than I am for a main event that might turn out to be the type of squash match that goes largely unseen outside of professional wrestling.
ERIC HOBAUGH, MMATORCH CONTRIBUTOR
The promos for thisfight have done nothing to increase my anticipation. The commercial for UFC 129showing GSP walking back to the locker room from a fight and Shields walking by instreet clothesisjust plainawful. It is veryClubber Lang vs Rocky. The UFC promos are never riveting television, but this spot in particular is one of the worstI can remember. I think the UFChas not done a great job promoting this fight, but because of the quality of the card it should still have good buy rates.
ANWAR PEREZ, MMATORCH COLUMNIST
The fact that not only do you get to see the best fighter in the world in Georges St. Pierre defend his title and extend his winning streak to three years straight, you also have Jose Aldo defending his belt, plus Randy Couture vs Lyoto Machida. GSP alone would have sold me on this card, but even though that alone sells the fight, the UFC trying to push this card and give it a hard sell is a nice touch because cards like these don't need that. It just shows that the UFC (and Zuffa in particular) are trying to establish MMA and break through any ceilings they have left.
ALEX WILLIAMS, MMATORCH CONTRIBUTOR
I'm the first to complain when the UFC puts a dud event on pay-per-view (Vitor Belfort vs Yoshihiro Akiyama as a main event, anyone?), but any time Randy Couture vs Lyoto Machida is third from the top, you know it's a stacked card. So as to maintain objectivity as a reporter, I try to avoid getting sucked in to the UFC hype machine while still evaluating how well I think they are sucking in the average fan. I believe the commercials for the event and the Primetime show have done an excellent job of making it seem like Jake Shields has a better chance of winning than he actually does.
MATT PELKEY, MMATORCH COLUMNIST

Due to the top three fights and the fact that its the UFC's first stadium show, my anticipation sits at a solid 9 on a scale of 1-10. The GSP-Jake Shields commercials have been cool, but even the standard UFC pay-per-view promo would've been fine with me. The fact that every fight will be easily accessible is just icing on the cake.

Strikeforce heavyweight Shane Del Rosario hit by allegedly intoxicated driver; faces physical and legal complications moving forward

Speaking with Del Rosario's trainer, Colin Oyama, the MMAJunkie report got more information about the accident, and unfortunately Del Rosario may have difficulties in getting back to action.
Del Rosario was hit by an allegedly intoxicated woman on April 14th while at a stoplight, and his injuries are severe enough that his trainer is concerned about whether or not he'll be able to make a full recovery.
"He's having some serious physical difficulties," Oyama said. "He's planning on [fighting again], but the injuries are serious enough to where it's kind of in question whether he can or not. We're hoping that he can. We'll know more in six months."
"He was at a complete stop. This lady was drunk at 6 p.m. ? I'm not sure how you're drunk at 6 p.m. ? but she lost control of her car, smashed into him, and apparently tried to flee the scene. The cops chased her down and caught her."
The woman in question, Kimberly Essayian, was arrested and booked on DUI charges by the Orange County Police Department, and with his car totaled, Del Rosario is currently going through the legal process against her, which is adding another set of issues to his situation.
"He's been trying to go to rehab as much as possible, but it's difficult with the lawsuit in what you can and can't do," Oyama said. "Everything you do is affecting the lawsuit. People following him (and saying), 'Oh, he's not hurt, he can walk.' It's like, come on. Are you kidding me?"
"If anything it will become a big legal distraction for him. But as far as training, he won't be able to train for probably another two or three months."
Del Rosario was supposed to face Daniel Cormier next month at Strikeforce's June 18 event in Dallas, Texas, but his injuries forced him out of the fight. A lightweight bout between K.J. Noons and Jorge Masvidal is expected to replace that fight on the card.

Penick's Analysis: That's not good news at all. I was hoping to hear it would be a less serious injury, but it's likely a multitude of things if he was at a stand still and his car was totaled. Sadly it's just another of the many examples of idiotic people getting behind the wheel of a vehicle when they're very much not in shape to do so, and people get hurt or worse. Hopefully Del Rosario can get through this legal process in a relatively quick amount of time, and more importantly I hope his rehab all goes well. He's a very talented fighter and bright prospect and it would be a shame to have his career severely affected by some idiotic drunk driver.

Koichiro Matsumoto vs. 'Lion' Takeshi Added to DREAM 'Fight for Japan'
A bout between DREAM lightweight ace Shinya Aoki and former WEC lightweight champion Jamie Varner is being targeted, but sources have indicated that no bout agreement has been signed yet and negotiations may have hit a standstill. UFC veterans Antonio McKee and Willamy Freire were also slated to face Aoki but those bouts also fell through.
The May 29 "Fight for Japan" charity event will be a scaled down version of a regular DREAM event due to power shortages and financial issues following the March 11 Japanese earthquake. The current card for DREAM's first show of 2011 is after the break.

Pacquiao vs. Mosley: Why MMA Fans Should Care
1. It's the biggest combat sports event of the year.
For as much as the UFC has gained on -- and in some respects surpassed -- the popularity of boxing, the biggest fights in boxing still exceed the biggest fights in the UFC in terms of pay-per-view buys and worldwide media attention. Although the MGM Grand in Las Vegas obviously won't attract nearly as many fans as the 55,000 who came out to see Georges St. Pierre in Toronto, Pacquiao vs. Mosley will surely get more pay-per-view buys in the United States, far more mainstream media attention and far more attention globally, as Pacquiao is a draw throughout Asia and the single biggest celebrity in the Philippines, a country of nearly 100 million people. This is a major worldwide sporting event.

Super 7 Q & A: Jones explains how he’s not a “swagger-jacker” and thinks Evans fight will change the sport
During a Q & A with Joe Rogan and six fellow UFC champions, Jon Jones met the with the fans before the UFC 129 weigh-in. He detailed injury that forced him out of his fight against teammate Rashad Evans. He still wants that fight.
"It's definitely going to change the sport and you're gonna have teammates fighting each other left and right now. It's just business. Like if the Patriots had a teammate on the Jets. It's not like they can't play each other for the Super Bowl," Jones said. "You know you just have to get the job done."
Well, technically New England and New York can't meet in the Super Bowl, but we get his point.
Jones is still confused as to why Evans has been upset with him for the last few months saying Rashad gave him his blessing to fight Mauricio Rua at dinner the night before his fight against Ryan Bader.
"I guess the biggest thing that made him upset is that I didn't call him right away to let him know I had done the interview about fighting him," Jones said. "But what I said on the interview was something that I would've said to his face, but he didn't take it very well."
Evans has been talking trash on Twitter and during several Internet interviews since. He even cracked on Jones for a being a swagger-jacker. He explained to the Canadian fans and Rogan what that meant.
"[Before The Tonight Show appearance] I was sent to the same exact stylist and I ended wearing the same shirt, the same suit and the same tie [that] Rashad wore like a year earlier. I show up on Jay Leno, he sees the suit and he's like 'oh you're copying my style.' I have my own swag," joked Jones.
Jones says he has small tears between his thumb and forefinger. It's something that's happened once a year since his days in college. His management decided it was time to get it surgically repaired.
Gus Johnson Signs With Fox but Stays With Showtime
Sources told MMAFighting.com that Johnson's contract with CBS was for basketball and football, and that his deal to call fights (both MMA and boxing) for Showtime was a separate contract. That contract is still in effect, and Johnson will call Saturday night's Andre Ward-Arthur Abraham boxing match for Showtime. Although Showtime hasn't yet announced who will broadcast its next MMA show (a June 18 Strikeforce card), Johnson is expected to call that event as well.
Theoretically, it's even possible that Johnson could be back on the CBS airwaves if CBS ever aired another Strikeforce fight: When Johnson called EliteXC and Strikeforce fights on CBS in the past, that was part of his Showtime deal. It's probably a long shot that we'd see Johnson back on CBS, however.

UFC Announces New Insurance for Fighters
Zuffa, the parent company of the UFC and Strikeforce, has announced that its 350 or so fighters, who are all independent contractors, will now be eligible for what it calls "customized accident insurance coverage." The policy will cover not just accidental injuries suffered in training, but also injuries suffered in car accidents or other injuries that have nothing to do with the fighters' MMA careers.
"As this sport continues to grow, we have been working hard to secure additional insurance coverage so that our athletes can perform at the highest levels," UFC President Dana White said in the announcement. "We're proud to give our athletes access to this type of insurance."

UFC 129: Rory MacDonald Hands Nate Diaz His Second Straight Loss
The fight was a blowout; the judges scored it 30-26, 30-27 and 30-26 in favor of MacDonald. At age 21, MacDonald looks tremendous. He really poured it on in the third round and slammed Diaz hard to the ground three times, using wrestling-style belly-to-back suplexes to send Diaz crashing to the canvas.
